Researches proving that vaping is safer than cigarettes

Social networks were blown up after the San Francisco Department of Public Health launched a new campaign, #curbit, which tries to prove that vaping is as dangerous as smoking tobacco. There was a sudden flurry of posters and billboards urging the smokers of San Francisco not to use nothing like an electronic cigarette, box mode, juul vape, etc. Their claims were full of disinformation, and here is the truth with real scientific research to break them.

  1. “We know that electronic cigarettes are harmful, just like cigarettes.”

Campaign #curbit argues that electronic cigarettes are harmful as well as cigarettes, but science proves just the opposite. In one independent study of the university, the researchers found that after smokers switched to electronic cigarettes, 91% showed improvement in their health status. In fact, 97% managed to reduce or even eliminate a chronic cough.

  1. “Flavored electronic cigarettes make teenagers use nicotine.”

Just like most e-cigarette critics, the San Francisco Department of Public Health argues that electronic cigarettes will lead to higher nicotine addiction among adolescents. Nevertheless, studies conducted among college students prove that electronic cigarettes do not act as a “gateway” to smoking cigarettes. Dr. Konstantinos Farsalinos also conducted a study to determine if the e-liquid with flavors will affect the success rates among people using electronic cigarettes to quit smoking. He found that the smell of liquids makes an essential contribution to reducing or eliminating smoking.

  1. “Electronic cigarettes emit pollution, which contains hazardous materials, presenting a potential danger to society” and “passive harm to others.

There have been several studies proving that there is no passive risk from electronic cigarettes. French researchers have found that the vapor from the electronic cigarette dissipates within 11 seconds compared to cigarette smoke, which is  20 minutes. They found that there was no public risk associated with the passive steam. The Oxford Journal also published a study of a pair of electronic cigarettes for the maintenance of toxins. The scientists found that the vapor contained zero combustion products, associated toxins and only a small amount of nicotine.

  1. “Electronic cigarettes are cigarettes.”

This can be the worst lie of all the #curbit campaign. Electronic cigarettes and cigarettes are fundamentally different. Tony Newman, director of communications at the Alliance for Drug Policy, recently called on tobacco control activists to look at cigarette technology before making such erroneous statements.

  1. “E-cigarettes are just the latest trick from tobacco companies to connect a new generation to their products.”

Since tobacco companies started experimenting with their vape products, many assumed that this should be proof that electronic cigarettes were just another scam. But scientists from the State College of Medicine in Penn found that electronic cigarettes cause less strong dependence than tobacco cigarettes. They also found that users of cigarettes were much less dependent on electronic cigarettes than they were dependent on when using tobacco.

While the FDA has not yet issued official regulations for electronic cigarettes across the country, in San Francisco, it is pretty hypocritical to say that there is no regulation.
